Serendip Sanctuary

Serendip is a local wildlife park, particularly for waterbirds. Its a great spot for a walk , a spot of twitching and a picnic and has some really interesting birds.
Here is the musk duck. A carnivorous bird it likes to eat small frogs and crayfish. Its tail is like a big rudder and it is quite the oddest duck I have ever seen. A bit like the long lost cousin of the duck billed platypus.

Brolga, large water birds well known for their bugling mating calls. Part of a reintroduction breeding programme at the sanctuary.

Emu

The Australian pelican, there are loads of these about and they are REALLY big.

These are the magpie geese, you can just imagine the conversation in the typical Aussie say what you see manner.

"hey mate whats that"
"its a magpie"
"nar its too big to be a magpie... and its swimming... must be a goose mate"
"thats right, magpie goose...."

Mainland wallabies... quite stocky little chaps

Tawny frogmouth, this is an Aussie owl... they're quite sweet.

Not something we see much of round these parts... a Lake !
Just in case you thought for a moment we were making the whole drought thing up, here is Rich in another 'lake' in the same area.
