Wildlife from our Garden

Even though its pretty small we get some great birds in our garden, usually making a bit of a fuss !
These are Rainbow Lorikeets which like to hang out in the gum tree at the back, or the tree in the neighbours front garden. They typically turn up in a gang of about 15 of them and have a bit of a fight and a lot of a squawk.

The general rule is pretty birds squawk and make a racket, and the ugly ones actually have melodious songs.

This pair are always together, preening each other.
This is a wattle bird, they build great woven nests. We generally get them later on in the evening where they swoop around eating moths (the ones the spiders don't get anyway).
This is the magpie. He is a big fairly ugly bird (a lot like a crow with white bits, but rather than squawking, or cawing like other crows he has a wistling, tootling call. Quite pretty for such an ugly sod !.

He also really likes to eat bacon rind (the only bird so far that does) but only after he has given it a damn good beating on the fake grass we have.
Shortly after that I realised that he was a she ! when she turned up with her 'little' offspring to teach them about bacon rind as well. The smaller ones don't bother with the beating up as much though.
