Newcastle

Up North of Sydney, Newcastle is a massive coal port. The oldest port in Australia, its a busy place and redeveloping quickly (it needs it in parts though). Right on the edge of the Hunter Valley wine touring area as well. Good weekend.

Wine touring in the Hunter, this is stop no1
Its a pretty damn beautiful valley with the big mountains in the distance and vines as far as you can see
Newcastle port is the busiest in tonnage terms in Australia and the oldest commercial port in Aus. Watching the boats come in every morning was pretty spectacular. Obviously they're taking coals from Newcastle.
Very impressive surf beaches on the ocean side
Tugs doing their ballet during the maritime festival which was on the sunday.
This is the harbour entrance built by the convict labour out to the lighthouse on the original island at the end.
