Yarra Valley

Our easter break in the Yarra Valley - 2 hours from Geelong just north east of Melbourne. Home of fine wines, great mountain views and a fab animal sanctuary.

Healesville Sanctuary. A wildlife park in the centre of the valley. The universal koalas a friendly wombat and Rich being faced down by a Pelican.

At the sanctuary they have a famous birds of prey display. After the kite and a small hawk, they brought the wedge tailed eagle out onto the stage. Sadly for the resident Eagle at the sanctuary, there are a pair of local Eagles as well who don't really want him in their territiry this is the moment when the wild eagle had a bit of a fight with the sanctuary guy Jess. Both seemed to come off OK but I think there was a bit of a damaged ego...

The gallery in the valley at TarraWarra, as well as having uninterupted views of the valley it has a great collection of australian artists.
5:30 am even before dawn and the balloon is just starting to light.
Up up and away in our beautiful, our beautiful balloooooooon.

   Ready for the off.

Smoke in the valley from a controlled burn off at the end of the season.

Warburton (sadly no bread as far as we could tell) has a suspension bridge, and local state park with some of the oldest trees in Victoria. This is the Ada tree, named after a lady who lived in the area and who discovered the trees. They are now thought to be around 400 years old.
The tree is so big, we could only get a photo of the bottom of it !!!
The view from our guest house, its good to wake up to.
Kinglake National Park the site of the bushfires in Feb 2009, it still hasn't recovered at all in some parts.
